Robotic Truss Assembly Optimizes Design

Taking a look at the complete process allows the opportunity to spot optimizations. This can be said with a truss assembly system which is a complete cutting/assembly/stacking system for the lumber industry. The system takes full bunks of dimensional lumber and does all the work necessary to produce full stacks of trusses.

Process optimization with a TPM actuator allows for an increase in energy efficiencies through process and component optimization. The TPM servo actuator used in the TCT Robotic Truss Assembly System is leading-edge technology. The TPM combines a high-precision gearhead with a high-pole count servo motor into one very compact package. The elimination of extra components leads to a high-torsional stiffness, minimized inertia, and high efficiency. With a rugged bearing structure the TPM is well suited for the most demanding applications.

By applying the TPM into the system architecture, a robotic truss was developed which combines five processes into one. Feeding, sawing, loading, conveying and stacking are now all performed by the same system creating an efficient process and allowing for the ultimate throughput.
