Ewon remote monitoring solution gives Aquasome full control of chemical water treatment process 24/7

Aquasome, chemical industrial water specialist in Czech Republic, uses a smart method to monitor their processes every minute of the day.  Their remote access solution uses Ewon remote solutions to gather data from the water treatment equipment and sends it to their PROMTIC SCADA system for analysis and monitoring.
Data Loss Resolved!

The Industrial PCs previously used in the process, were getting expensive and they had no local buffer causing data loss if GSM communications failed.  The lack of user-defined reports and challenges of servicing and programming local units remotely were other drawbacks of the former system. Also, it was difficult to extend the system to new customers or locations.

Along with the recommendation of Microsys, Czech SCADA experts, Aquasome agreed to detour from Industrial PCs and use Ewon Flexy as an IIoT gateway instead.  This new Ewon Flexy solution is able to gather data from the chemical controllers in the the plant and send this data through 3G to the PROMOTIC SCADA system for analysis and display.

Web-Based Visualization on a Smartphone or Computer

The SCADA application is running on the virtual server along with the SQL database. Visualization can be accessed easily through a smartphone or a computer and provides Aquasome technicians full management access.  Plus, limited access to particular parts of the process can be granted to customers.

The Process:
  • The Ewon Flexy routers are configured to communicate with two customized controllers from Aquasome.  Flexy routers collects data from the controllers via Modbus and stores it in the Flexy’s local memory.  Every fifteen minutes the Flexy connects via 3G to the Ewon DataMailbox (a server that stores data temporarily, within the architecture of TalK2M cloud) and synchronizes the fresh data.
  • PROMOTIC SCADA captures this data from the Talk2M DataMailbox and updates its own data base. Each Flexy is also used as communication gateway for sending alarm emails from the chemical treatment units if values reach certain thresholds.
  • Ewon routers provide a remote access tunnel to the controllers via the free VPN service eCatcher. This allows the water specialist to program and troubleshoot their equipment remotely.
