C&C Technologies acquired four waste water pumping stations in the province of Novara, Italy which was 60 km from the main headquarters of the company. The company needed to implement a permanent remote maintenance and management system.  A router that would permit remote monitoring  and which would be easily interfaceable with the Siemens PLC and panels was required.

eWon technology was found to be the optical solution. By linking the eWon industrial router with the central plant system by a secure VNP connection, it is possible for the company to access and manage the system remotely and to intervene if needed through the Talk2M service.

Aquaflot was charged to build a new cutting edge waste monitoring treatment plant based on an existing one. To be able to design such a construction, a large quantity of data needed to collected about the existing building and its working process. They needed the quickest way of obtaining the data without interfering with the waste water treatment plant control system.

Danfoss VLT Drives Control Energy Consumption at LEGOLAND®

The Vikings River Splash is popular in LEGOLAND®. It also consumes more energy than nearly everything else in the amusement park.  This is why regulating the water flow in the attraction is of supreme importance.  The goal is to use only the necessary amount of water to send the guests on a wild ride in the tub-shaped boats.

“By installing Danfoss VLT 6172 132kW frequency converters on the two pumps of the ride we have reduced energy consumption. At the same time it is now easier to regulate the water volume because the frequency converter ensures that the pumps only circulate the necessary volumes of water”, says Anders Christensen who works as an electrical technician at LEGOLAND.

Electricity consumption has been reduced by 190,000 kWh per annum, and at the same time it has become easier to regulate water flow.

Measurement of Sewer Chambers

A measurement system based on SICK laser scanner for measuring sewer chambers.

Challenge
During the measurement of sewer chambers, it is normally necessary to actually enter the sewers. A step descent through the vertical shaft, moisture, dirt and unforeseeable circumstances make this activity an unpleasant and to some extent dangerous experience for the authorities and surveyors. For this reason, an unmanned, portable, opto-electronic solution for recording 3D data was sought.

Application Solution
The result is a chamber measurement system based on SICK’s LMS500. Mounted on the chamber measurement system’s turntable, the LMS500 is lowered upside down using a telescopic support. Once at the bottom, the LMS500 is rotated by 360° for the measurement. During the measurement, the measured data from the LMS500 as well as the actual position on the turntable are recorded. In practice the distances measured are between 1 m and 30 m. The result of a three-minute all-round scan using the LMS500 is a set of data comprising more than a million individual measured points. The vertical resolution is limited to 0.25°, the horizontal resolution is, on the other hand, variable. The 3D model of the sewer chamber is then generated using the chamber measurement system’s evaluation software.

Benefit
By using the chamber measurement system and the LMS500 it is no longer necessary to enter chambers to make the measurements. Darkness, dark walls or moist concrete surfaces do not impair the function of the LMS500 in the 3D chamber measurement system. Due to the fine resolution of the measured data – even the smallest duct or the rungs on the ladder are clearly visible within the set of data – a very exact 3D image of the chambers can be generated.

Precise Pumping Systems Help Feedlot Feed Millions

Precision Pumping Systems helped Simplot develop a water and wastewater regulation system for one of the largest feedlots in the United States.

The United States is a major exporter of food, particularly beef. Feedlots, like the Simplot Land and Livestock feedlot in Grandview, Idaho. With so many animals to feed, shelter, and provide water for, it’s no surprise that feedlots have some rigorous requirements that must be met, particularly in regulating the water and wastewater of the facility.

Precision Pumping Systems was able to meet all these requirements using an application developed in InduSoft Web Studio v7.0.The application developed for the feedlot monitors and controls a wide variety of equipment.

PPS also configured the InduSoft Web Studio application with a wireless LAN connection that offers Simplot control and monitoring of everything from the main pond pump system to the remote wells and turbine pumps. The application developed by PPS monitors levels, pressures, flows, and pump status. It also allows users to adjust the process set points in the PLCs in all locations.  Fault conditions from the sites are recorded in the log and sent through text message or email to the system operators.

Waste water treatment produces enormous amounts of sewage sludge on a daily basis. This waste product has to be processed or properly disposed of. Either way, it is necessary to load the sewage sludge into appropriate transport containers.

Ultrasonic sensors monitor the process to prevent overfilling of the containers. Fill level is monitored by an ultrasonic sensor and output as an analog value. When the maximum fill level is reached, the sensor delivers an additional switching signal to stop the flow of the material.
